Last weekend, Mike and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary. In keeping with tradition, we drove up to Whistler in a shiny new rental car and enjoyed a little get away together. In the weeks and months leading up to this milestone anniversary, I was asked many time questions like: “Do you think he’s the one?” “Do you think he will propose?” “Do you think you two will get married?” I usually laughed a little and answered vaguely. After some thought, here’s my answer: I don’t know. But here’s what I do know …
I’m with a person who listens to a little comment I made on our first trip to Whistler and made it a reality this year. He made a conscious effort to make me relax, and trust me – I’m not one who can easily stow away work thoughts and exhale.
He is the biggest supporter of my creativity. He may never “like” or “share” a single post I make, but he will always tell me his thoughts of every blog post I write. He will listen to my crazy project ideas, support them, and give me advice to bring over-ambitious ideas into a more realistic concept. Plus, he lets me take mini photoshoots of him!
I’ve got a person who makes me feel beautiful. He loves when I don’t wear make-up on a day out, but who also understands that one of the best parts of going out is spending the time to get ready. He never judges as I have a solo dance party in the bathroom as I put on make-up and do my hair. (There was a lot of Beyonce this weekend – and most days, to be honest)
He knows that I may never come up with the idea to go on any outdoor adventure, and I may complain at the idea of it, but afterwards, I will always be grateful that he pushed me do to it. He reminds me to step outside my comfort zone and to give up control and enjoy an on-the-fly adventure.
So, to all those who secretly (and not-so-secretly) hoped a ring landed on my finger this weekend and who dream of an upcoming wedding, I answer this: I don’t know if ‘forever’ is in store for us, all I know for sure is that right now, he makes me happy. We’re both happy, and that should be good enough for you, because it’s sure is good enough for us.
