Joining Two Souls

Dearest Kuya Chris and Chelsea,

Thank you for one of the most memorable wedding ceremonies of my life.
The rainfall over night and weather warnings in the morning couldn't stop us from celebrating your beautiful love. The beach sparkled with purple and pink hues in the sky as the bride came down the aisle. Your ceremony was truly touching. Weddings always make me cry, but yours made me think. As I watched you stare lovingly into each other's eyes, holding your breathe, I felt the love surrounding you and between both of you.

Kuya - Thank your for always teaching me of balance. Your words never go wasted on me as I try to discover a path towards balance that you have found for yourself. Thank you for leading by example and always showing unconditional love to the family and never giving up on any of us.

Chelsea - Thank you for all the cigar talks. You are one of the realest women I know. You teach me to reach for my dreams that are just outside my reach and to believe in what I am capable of doing. Our big, bad-ass, crazy family just got a hell of a lot stronger because you are now are "officially" a part of it.

When I think back to your wedding day, I feel both of your spirits. I see the chill relaxing environment that you created. I appreciate the attention to detail in all of the decor and every element in the reception. I see the dance floor full of bodies grooving to the music and laughter seeming like it will never end.

Chris and Chels - May you find yourselves always embodying the island life and find comfort in the fact that you found true love.

With endless affection,
Jana

Kauai, Hawaii

Hawaii was never on my "list". I heard of it's beauty and wonder, but never really felt the need to see it for myself. The latest Josue wedding brought us to these breathtaking islands. It was there that Chris and Chelsea fell in love, embodied the spirit of island life, and got engaged. Chris only spoke excitedly about Kauai and convinced me with his every word that it would be a place I would fall in love with. And that I did.

I roomed with Ron, Liz, and Ryan in a beautiful airbnb on Kauai that had a vintage Hawaii feel. We had a short few days on the island before exploring Oahu, but it was enough to appreciate the beauty of the area. The bright colours, unreal beauty, and laid back aura of the area really stuck with me.

Check out a few photos from the first few days of our trip!

Quality Time

Quality time is a toughie for me. I feel like I am constantly juggling a million projects, responsibilities, and ideas in my mind that it's hard for me to be present in the moment. The only person that seems to make time stop is this little angel. A few weeks ago, Carolina invited me to bring Lucy to her first ever movie in a theatre. She was ready to watch the Minions movie with her minion backpack and a bag of popcorn. Plus, the gross sweaty Skittles that melted in her hands that she ate (and shared) throughout the movie. It was great to be a part of what can be seen as a small "First" in her life. I hope that as she grow sup I bring her to many more movies and help her to see them as works of art and peepholes into the human psyche.

Over Spring Break I got the chance to babysit her for the day. I learned that "parent" life is damn hard and full or surprises. I had the day all planned out, but it got derailed in the first hour. We adjusted quickly and still got everything checked off the list - with a mid day nap too! Some of my favourite shots of Lucy growing up are the ones that are purely in the moment. Her hiding the curtain during hide and go seek, grabbing my phone to "take photos of me", and her napping in bed (the riskiest of them all!). Taking her to the Aquarium was a blast, but laying on the ground singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" is just as good.

The first thing you see as you enter the B Cool household is this sign. Words to live by.

Springtime Lucianna Elle

It had been far too long since I snapped some photographs of little Lucianna Josue! Since her last shoot, she has grown leaps and bounds, learned to roll over, stand up, and crawl, and has the most adorable two tiny bottom teeth. She is now 8  months old and lighting up the family Sunday dinners with her endless laughs and conversations with herself.

Much love to the amazing parents to this little gem! I'm so happy to snap a picture of you two to keep forever!

& finally, I wish this mama a wonderful first mother's day! I hope Lucianna spoils you with a full night's sleep and no tears and that Rob takes care of all those diapers! Lucy is such a happy baby because she's got a mama like you!

Easter Weekend

 Easter is all about family.

Two family-filled days were sandwiched between two relaxing and productive days. It started off with meeting with my favourite little angel to help give her a bath, dress her up for easter, and squeeze in some quality one on one time. Luckily, we got to meet up with one of our cousins for a quaint lunch, mostly centered around the two little ladies.

We ventured to my dad's house for a spring/easter shoot of  Lucianna (you'll have to wait for next week to see those photos!) and to catch up on the NBA playoffs. Dinner was absolutely delicious, as usual, especially when it ends off with the infamous Carol cookies.

On Sunday, Mike and I had one thing on our minds: scalloped potatoes. We wpent the day in Tsawwassen helping out around his dad's place. We even got to learn how to make Jody's scrumptious scalloped potatoes and chowed down once it was ready!

It is weekends like these that remind me of how truly blessed I am to be a part of so many loving families.

'Tis the season

By far, my favourite time of the year is Christmas. I love the busyness of the holiday season, being surrounded by friends and family, and the even the small things like Christmas decor.

This Christmas was extra special because we were celebrating little Lucy's first Christmas! Though she's not quite at the age where she anxiously awaits Santa's arrival, you could feel the happiness and love her presence added to the room.

Christmastime is filled with traditions, and one of my favourites is the Secret Santa exchange with my lifelong friends. This year, we celebrated atop the W building which gave us all a reminder of how stunning our city truly is.

Though it may be late, from my families and to yours, I hope you had a memorable Christmas.
