Union Swimwear

Collaboration over Competition.
I've been thinking about this phrase a lot lately. So much of my portfolio was built on the back of collaborations - of people taking a chance on me to capture their work, their spirits, and their love. As my business grows and collaborations slowly become a thing of the past, I decided to do select collaboration or TFP projects with companies, brands, and people I firmly believe in. Good karma goes far in this life, and I hope I never feel I am above a strong collaboration.

Collaboration is exactly what this photoshoot was all about! An incredible group of women banded together and trotted down to Sunset Beach to shoot for Union Swimwear. We trampled all over the rocks, frolicked in the water, and basked in that sweet, sweet Vancouver sunshine. Amy, of Union Swimwear, provided the swimsuits and cozies, Alexandra brought the accessories, and Cassandra and Jaime graciously appeared on camera.

There are some photoshoot where you just feel it's going right, and this was one of them! All of the women were so supportive of each other and Cass + Jaime were more than willing to try anything! It was such a lovely summer evening.

I gotta say it - if you're looking for a BANGIN' one piece, look no further. I've been sporting my Union swimsuits all summer (I have the low back tan to prove it) and I can't say enough about it! It's comfy, stylin', and you feel secure to do any beach activity in it! Plus, Amy is AMAAAAZING and deserves all the support in the world!

This photoshoot brought together an amazing group of women.

Madina Lolaeva I

Madina and I first met for coffee downtown and I instantly felt great vibes from her. She shared her vision for her new fashion instagram account and aspirations for a new business. From that first day, I wish I had my camera with me to capture her killer outfit!

Since then, we've been working together consistently to create a specific feel and look for her instagram. She always comes to shoots prepared to the 9s with unique outfits, every accessory picked out, and a stunning range of hats that leave me droooooooling.

Our first shoot had a strong urban flare - focussing on fashionable streetwear clothing that any Vancouverite can sport in the fall or early spring. Luckily, downtown is infamous for having such variety in backgrounds, all within walking distance!

With spring in full swing, Madina took me to this dope overpass that I've seen around in other photographs and showed how one outfit can transition to two different looks so easily!

Madina and I have a lot coming down the pipes for y'all and I'm so excited to continue to work with someone so sweet and who inspires my fashion game. Maybe next time I can convince her to help me go shopping!

Madina's Instagram is full of killaaaaa outfits! Follow her now!

Charlotte Deng

Charlotte & I were both in the right place at the right time to make this collaboration happen. She was in Vancouver for a short trip, and I happened to have an opening at the perfect time to squeeze her in. We were ambitious with four outfit changes in mind, but we found the perfect spot in Gastown to show off different Vancouver vibes. Still one of my favourite shoots to date, Charlotte gave me full creative control and brought stunning outfits that were truly inspirational.

Vancouver Bridal Fashion Week

Part of jumping into freelancing was opening myself up to saying "YES!" to new opportunities and jumping into unknowns. That's how I felt as I stepped into shooting the promotion shoot for the Vancouver Bridal Fashion Week in Vancouver. The experience was unique and exciting - so many collaborators coming together with the common goal of creating something beautiful and memorable. It was a non-stop afternoon, but worth every minute and I walked away with a new experience under my belt and some of my favourite shots of the year so far!

Martin Barclay

How do you define style?
It's a question I've asked myself many times in my life and it feels complex. I've come to realize that there are plenty of people who have style, but I just may not agree or see eye to eye with that style. But, you always gotta respect those people who have a define sense of style.

It's the first word that comes to mind when I think of Martin. The man's got style. & it's the kind of style that undeniable. You may not necessarily like his style (though I doubt many people feel this way), but you know he's got it. As I've gotten to know him, I've realized that his sense of style goes way deeper than the clothes too.

Our first shoot was in the winter and Martin came in the most festive red blazer and dope bowtie I've ever seen! He let me drag him all around Gastown and to random rooftops to get the shots and it was an adventure.

In the spring, we went to Olympic village for some different scenery and colour scheme. As always, Martin had every detail of his outfits planned out from the tie clips to the lapel pins!

Our latest shoot brought us to Main Street, where Martin braved the scorching heat in full suits (and even a wool suit. You heard me, WOOL). We weaved through the alleys and streets to find perfect murals and backdrops to match his outfits to a tee. Capturing Martin invevitably means getting attention from people as we walk around. In the Vancouver style scene, his menswear stands out, and he handles it with grace and gratitude. During our shoot, one of my friends drove past us and texted me later saying "I knew you mustve been shooting because that guy you were with had insane style". Duh.

Working with Martin over the past few months has been a joy. He's always got a great attitude and ready to go explore different areas and ideas! His outfits, like I've said, over and over again, are KILLER. They exude a real sense of style that is innately within him. Martin is hilarious, kind, and full of great stories from a life well lived and y'all should be just as excited as I am to see what he's got down the pipes for the fashion world.

Designed by Lynda Li

If everything went perfectly with my photography career, shooting look books would become the norm. When I was approached by Lynda Li, it all seemed to fit just right! She was super organized when putting together the shoot and kept me in the loop about vision and direction, yet she gave me the freedom to do my own thing. We wanted to give a dreamy feel to the shoot and show how the different pieces can represent different parts of the same woman. Jada and Chelsea were the perfect models for our vision and were a joy to work alongside with!
